In December of 2021, ASTM corrected a citation in D6400 for the Canadian regulated metals threshold. The BPI Commercial Compostability Certification Scheme has been updated to match these revisions, and BPI certificate holders will have until June 30, 2026, to bring their certified items into compliance with the new thresholds.
The table below details the old and new thresholds for the US, Canada, and BPI, as well as the thresholds required by the BPI Home Compostability Certification Scheme. Companies applying for both commercial and home certification must meet the lowest threshold for each regulated metal.
