How to Become a BPI-Approved Lab
This approval process includes:
- Application: Complete DIN CERTCO's application for approval as a DIN CERTCO-testing laboratory/inspection body and email it and all supporting documentation to info@dincerto.de.
- Evaluation: The complexity of the evaluation process varies based on the lab’s accreditation status. In most cases, labs with relevant accreditation only require a review of their application, accreditation documents, and their quality manual. Labs without accreditation will require additional screening that includes an audit conducted by DIN CERTCO.
- Fees: Like the evaluation process, fees vary based on whether the lab is accredited. Initial approval starts at 1,900 EUR and depends on the specific effort required (audits are billed at 1,100 EUR per person per day, plus travel expenses). Fees are outlined in the "Schedule of fees for the approval of testing laboratories and inspection bodies."
- Contract and Certificate: Upon approval, the lab enters into a contract with DIN CERTCO, based on the General Terms of Recognition and Collaboration with Test Laboratories and Inspection Agencies, and receives a certificate of approval.
Once a lab is approved:
- Listing: The lab is listed as an approved lab on BPI’s website.
- Fees: An annual fee is paid to DIN CERTCO to maintain approved status. This fee is approximately 270 EUR and is waived for the first year a lab is approved.
- Renewal: Labs undergo evaluation every five years to renew their approval. Renewal fees start at 1,350 EUR and are dependent upon the processes required for renewal.
*The fees listed are approximate and may change over time.
